What is OpenClaw?

OpenClaw is open-source software that turns a dedicated computer into your always-on AI assistant. It connects to official models like Claude and ChatGPT, and you can use it through apps like Telegram or WhatsApp.

Why use this instead of just ChatGPT in a browser?

You get an always-available assistant in your messaging apps, deeper customization, integrations with your tools, and direct control over your setup. You also pay for API usage rather than a fixed message-limited chat experience.

Is this legal, and what do I actually own?

Yes — it is fully legal. You use official provider APIs and pay those providers directly. You own the hardware and your local setup. Your data and conversations remain yours.

Hardware & Setup

What hardware is included?

The standard package includes a Mac mini M2 configured for 24/7 OpenClaw usage. It is your machine to keep.

Why a Mac mini?

It is compact, quiet, stable, and energy-efficient, with strong long-term support. For this use case it is a reliable default.

What do I need to provide?

Power + internet (Wi-Fi or Ethernet), a messaging account (Telegram or WhatsApp), and your own API keys (we guide you through setup).

Where should the device be placed?

Anywhere with power and network access: office desk, near your router, or tucked away in a cupboard. It is small and quiet.

Do I need a monitor all the time?

No. Day-to-day use is through messaging apps. A monitor is only useful during setup or occasional maintenance.

Installation & Service

What happens on installation day?

We place and connect the machine, complete software setup, link messaging apps, test the full flow, then run a practical training session. Typical install window is around half a day.

Where in NZ do you install?

We cover major centres including Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch, Hamilton, Tauranga, and Dunedin. If you are outside those areas, ask us and we will confirm options.

What is included in the first month of coaching?

Weekly check-ins, troubleshooting, and optimization support so your assistant actually becomes useful in daily workflows.

What happens after month one?

Your system keeps running. You can continue self-managed or add ongoing support if you want deeper optimization over time.

Pricing & Ongoing Costs

What is included in the package price?

Hardware (Mac mini M2), on-site installation, full OpenClaw configuration, messaging integration, training, and one month of follow-up coaching.

What is API usage?

Each AI message uses provider tokens, so there is a small per-message cost. Typical users often spend around $20/month, while heavy daily use can be $50–100/month depending on model choice and volume.

Can I use multiple AI providers?

Yes. OpenClaw can be set up with Anthropic, OpenAI, or both. Many people switch models depending on the task.

Privacy & Security

Who can see my conversations?

Messages flow from your chat app to your local machine, then to your selected AI provider for processing. We do not monitor or retain your chats.

Is this more private than using ChatGPT directly?

It gives you stronger control over your setup and local data handling. Provider-side processing still applies when generating responses.

What access does your team have after setup?

By default, none. If support is needed later, you can grant temporary access and revoke it at any time.

Technical Questions

What if my internet goes down?

Cloud model responses pause until connectivity returns. The system reconnects automatically, and your chat history remains.

Can it connect to smart home systems?

Yes, with custom integration work. Tell us your current stack and we can scope what is possible.

Can multiple people use one setup?

Yes. You can configure multiple messaging identities so family members or team members can use the assistant.

What if something breaks?

Hardware is covered by manufacturer warranty, and software issues are usually resolved quickly with restart, update, or guided support.
